Founded in 1845 in the city of Lubeck, Carstens still make their marzipan to the original recipe. The higher proportion of pure marzipan paste gives a more intense natural almond flavour. Using 90% paste with just 10% added sugar, this results in 'Marzipan from Lubeck' a legally protected designation throughout Europe since 1996
